Increasing Cultural Awareness

IPP Carla Jimena and Rotarians Jill Visbal and Gizelle Gonzales helped ROTEX Theo Dussart increase his knowledge about the culture of Filipinos from then to now. On September 18, 2016, they visited the National Museum of the Philippines located at Padre Burgos Ave., Ermita, Manila, and the Ayala Museum located at Makati, Metro Manila. The exhibits displayed the history of the Philippines, i.e., the cultural traditions of each tribes before they became urbanized by the coming of the Spaniards, the artworks of famous Filipino painters depicting the society of the Filipinos during the Spanish, American and Japanese colonization, the story of how Philippines was discovered, the time of the barter trade between Chinese merchants and the existing tribes on the islands before Magellan and his men set foot on the islands, and many more. It was a mind-packed day for Theo and hopefully he can now further understand the uniqueness of the Filipino culture compared to other nations.
